MARAUDER GRIDIRON ACE TAKEN 38TH IN NLL ENTRY DRAFT

In the best traditions of multi-sport icons Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, McMaster Marauder football player Joey Cupido has been rewarded for his athletic versatility by being selected by the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. A third-year cornerback for the Marauders, Cupido was selected 38th overall in the NLL entry draft held September 22, 2011.

In addition to his football exploits, Cupido has been an outstanding lacrosse player for the Six Nations Arrows of the Canadian Lacrosse Association. As a first-year athlete at McMaster, Cupido played for the McMaster men’s lacrosse team, while also practising as a member of the football team.

Moving into the Marauder secondary in his second year last season, Cupido was named a second-team OUA all-star.

While football is the priority right now, being drafted by Colorado could offer some options for a professional lacrosse career for Cupido down the road. The Mammoth opens its 2012 NLL regular season on January 14.
