Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's lacrosse team earned a much needed win on Friday night over the Laurier Golden Hawks.
After a terrible start the Marauders found themselves down 5-0 at the end of the first quarter and trailed by nine goals at one point in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Marauders fought back as Matt Garrison (Courtice, Ont.) tied the game at 13 with 25 seconds left in the game. Carter Williams (Scottsdale, AZ) and Kevin MaCrory (Etobicoke, Ont.) scored two in overtime to secure the 15-14 win.
Williams and MaCrory were the McMaster leading scorers with 6 and 4 goals, respectively.
The next day, the Marauders took on the No. 2 Brock Badgers on the road. After the Badgers scored four unanswered goals at the beginning of the first quarter, Williams repsoned with a goal of his own assisted by Sean Deuchars (Toronto). Brock would score one more to make it 5-1 going into the second.
In the second quarter, the Marauders fought back to score two goals and held the Badgers at their five goals going into the second half. Ryan Adams (Oakville, Ont.) and Michael Dawson (Hamilton, Ont.) were the goal scorers for McMaster, both assisted by Garrison.
In the third, McMaster scored a goal within a minute, a second from Adams to get within one but the Badgers would respond with four goals of their own to round out the third with a score of 9-4.
Down by five, the Marauders wouldn't be able to build up enough momentum to take down the lacrosse powerhouse. Williams scored three more goals in the fourth.
The Marauders are now 4-6 to end the regular CUFLA season and will take on either Guelph or Brock in the first round of playoffs on October 28.
