Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's lacrosse team hosted their last home game of the 2011 season at Alumni Field on Wednesday night.
The Marauders opened up the scoring with a goal by Michael Dawson (Hamilton, Ont.). Guelph would respond with two of their own before McMaster's Cam Murphy (Fergus, Ont.) would tie it up and end the quarter 2-2.
Guelph would dominate the second quarter, scoring five goals to McMaster's one. Carter Williams (Scottsdale, AZ) was the only Marauder to score in the second with Guelph leading at half 7-3.
In the third McMaster would make up some ground. Going up 8--3 with an early goal in the third, Guelph would give up four consecutive goals, two from Williams and another two from Kevin MaCrory (Etobicoke, Ont.), to bring them within one. Guelph would end the quarter leading by two with another goal later on. Sean Deuchars (Toronto) would score McMaster's eighth goal of the night.
In the fourth quarter is when Guelph would pull away with the win, scoring four more goals before Williams scored the ninth goal for McMaster. Guelph would score two more with less than two minutes left in the game and would win it 16-9.
This is the second time the Marauders have fallen to the Gryphons this season, getting beat 16-6 in their last meeting.
McMaster plays Laurier and Brock this weekend on the road in hopes of continuing their season through the playoffs as the defending CUFLA Baggataway Cup Champions.
