Williams and Horvat named TwelvEighty Athletes of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. — Women's Rugby's Laura Williams (Erin, Ont.) and Football's Michael Horvat (Hamilton, Ont.) have been crowned this week's TwelvEighty Athletes of the Week following standout performances in a pair of McMaster victories.

Laura Williams (Erin, Ont.)

Laura Williams delivered an outstanding all-around performance as the Marauders rolled to a dominant 91-7 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in their 2026 OUA home opener.

Williams was a force with the ball in her hands, crossing the try line three times to complete the hat trick and accounting for 15 points in McMaster's 15-try performance. Her ability to break through the Toronto defence added another dimension to a Marauders attack that produced 91 points on the afternoon.

Williams also played a key role in creating opportunities for her teammates, assisting on two additional tries as McMaster continued to pull away throughout the match. Her impact extended well beyond the scoresheet, contributing at both ends of the field.

Defensively, Williams put together a standout performance in the midfield, delivering several big tackles to halt Toronto's attack and help McMaster hold the Varsity Blues to just seven points in the victory.

Michael Horvat (Hamilton, Ont.)

Kicker/Punter Michael Horvat delivered an outstanding performance on special teams as the Marauders earned a 24-3 victory over the York Lions at York Lions Stadium.

Horvat was perfect on all five of his field goal attempts, accounting for 15 points off field goals alone. He connected from 33 and 31 yards in the opening quarter, single-handedly outscoring York 6-3 through the first 15 minutes . He continued his perfect afternoon with field goals from 10, 39 and 41 yards, with the 41-yarder coming on the final play of the first half.

The veteran also made an impact in the field-position battle. Horvat punted eight times for 361 yards, averaging 45.1 yards per punt with a long of 60 yards and one punt placed inside the York 20-yard line.

Horvat added a rouge and converted his lone extra-point attempt to cap off an impressive all-around performance for the Marauders.
