HAMILTON, Ont. – McMaster Marauder DeEmetrius Masuka (Hamilton, Ont.) was selected by the Toronto Argonauts in the eighth round, 72nd overall, of the 2025 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft.
The 6'2" defensive back made a significant impact in his first two seasons with McMaster, recording 27 solo tackles, 9 assists, 3 interceptions, and averaging 3.9 tackles per game.
During that time, Masuka was selected to participate in the East-West Bowl and was named an OUA Second Team All-Star in 2022. The Toronto Argonauts, who selected Masuka, are the defending Grey Cup champions, having defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41–24 in 2024.
Masuka expressed his excitement about joining the Argonauts and furthering his career with the reigning champions:
"Looking at Toronto specifically and the success they've had in the CFL, I think it would be a great fit based on what I can bring when I'm healthy."
Having dealt with injuries during his most recent season at McMaster, Masuka is especially grateful for the opportunity:
"To have a team take a chance on me and allow me to prove the player I am when I'm healthy—it's a big moment for me."
Masuka also acknowledged the impact McMaster Football has had on his development:
"McMaster has made me the person I am today. Coming in as a first-year from Hamilton who didn't really know football that well, to becoming someone who's confident in my abilities as a person, football player, and student—it's helped me more than I could have ever imagined."
A huge congratulations to DeEmetrius Masuka on this remarkable achievement!
