PREVIEW: McMaster Men’s Curling heads to OUA Championship in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. — The Marauder men's curling team will head to the OUA championship hosted by Guelph on February 7-9th at the Galt Country Club.

The team will start the championship run in the round robin games starting on February 7th against Waterloo and Western and then will face Laurier and York on February 8th. The Marauders have already completed a packed schedule in the regular season. They started off the season at the Guelph Invitational and the team finished the weekend with a record of 3-2. The team then went 4-1 at home at the McMaster Invitational. The Marauders ended the regular season at Brock where they came away 3-1.

Marauders to watch:

This will be the third year playing in an OUA Championship for fourth year, Biology and Physiology major, Benjamin Winchester (St.Marys, Ont.). Winchester in just his third year of eligibility and was last season's McMaster Men's Curling MVP. He currently plays lead on the team as well as being one of the longest tenured players on the team.

Winchester is extra excited to showcase the team's skills this year with many returning players. "With the same roster as last year we've had the rare opportunity to really gel as a team. Last year we had a lot of player turnover heading into the season, losing both our skip and vice from 2022-23. The stability in personnel and shuffling of positions has allowed us to really find our game this season, and I look forward to showing other teams how far we've come," said Men's Curling Co-President Benjamin Winchester

Third year, Computer Engineering student, Tyler Smith (Sudbury, Ont.) is in his second year of eligibility and playing for a second year at the OUA Championship. He was a finalist at the Northern Ontario U18 in 2020 and U21 in 2021. He was third in Northern Ontario Mixed Championship in 2019 & 2021, and has stepped into the skip role this season.
