HAMILTON, Ont. — McMaster will compete in the OUA Men's Fencing championships in Kingston from March 1st-2nd, hosted by Royal Military College.
The team have already found success in the regular season grabbing a silver medal at the Carleton Invitational in the men's epee team. Last year, the men's epee team brought home bronze at the OUA championships and the team finished fifth overall.
Marauders to watch:
Fourth year Arts and Science student, Oscar Hand (Kingston, Ont.) has competed in three OUA championships and over the course of his varsity career he has racked up many medals. In his first year, Hand won a bronze medal in the team men's epee event and finished third overall in team standings. Last year, at OUAs he won another bronze medal in the team men's epee event. This year, Hand won a silver medal at the Queen's Open in October, and a silver medal at the Carleton Team Invitational in January, setting himself up as a medal contender at the 2025 OUA Championships.
Fifth year Medicine student, Victor Ripan (Oakville, Ont.) will be competing in his fourth OUA championships. In 2022, he finished top 8 in individual men's foil at the OUA championships and also was a part of that year's OUA bronze medal men's fencing team. Ripan is confident in the preparation the team has put in. "Everyone put in lots of work this year and this is our chance to show what McMaster fencing is all about," said Ripan. He knows the team has worked very hard to get here and now it's time to showcase their skills. "Over the years, I've watched this team transform, facing challenges head-on and building something truly extraordinary," adds Ripan.
