HAMILTON, Ont. — The Marauder women's fencing team will head to Kingston to compete at the OUA Championship from February 8-9th hosted by Queen's.
The Marauders are feeling condfident heading into championship season. "This year, we've welcomed some incredible new athletes to our team and will be bringing back some fantastic returning fencers too. We've all been working hard throughout the season and have made many amazing improvements. Our team is super excited to showcase our progress at the upcoming OUA championship at Queen's University this February," said Aurora Boone (Peterborough, Ont) and Kate Jordan, (Scarborough, Ont.).
Last year, the Marauders finished their season in Toronto at the OUA Championship. The Marauders women's foil team consisting of Aurora Boone, Sofya Ermolina (Hamilton, Ont.), Kiara Ting (Coquitlam, B.C.) and Kaleigh Whitelaw (Mount Hope, Ont.) placed sixth overall. The women's sabre relay featuring Jordan, Natalie Palmer, Casey Wang (Markham, Ont.) and Michelle Wang (Toronto, Ont.), ended the competition in sixth place. The last OUA sabre win was in 2002.
In the individual matches Jordan placed 10th, Natalie Palmer was 11th and right behind her was Ting in 12th.
The Marauders started their 2024-2025 season in Kingston as well at the RMC Invitational. The women's foil team B team consisted of Ermolina, Sabrina Kocot (Newmarket, Ont.), Whitelaw, and Hannah Bryan (Peterborough, Ont.) and they finished 11th, as the top Marauder finishers.
In the women's epee, the McMaster A team finished 13th with a team of Emma Allen (Sooke, B.C.), Mia Bowering (Cambridge, Ont.) Sofia Cruz (Toronto, Ont.) and Akanksha Guleria (Brantford, Ont.). The women's sabre landed in 12th in with Mac A team including Jordan, Wang, Yuhan Tao, and Maria Alex (Toronto, Ont.)
The Marauders then competed in the Carleton Invitational on January 11-12th. The McMaster women's A sabre team placed 4th, the foil A team placed 5th and the Epee was 8th.
Marauders to watch:
Electrical Engineering & Society student, Aurora Boone, in third year of eligibility, competed in the last two OUA championships where she placed 10th in 2023 and 22nd in 2024.
Honours Life Sciences student, Kate Jordan is also in her third year of eligibility and competed in the last two OUA championships where she placed 10th at last year's championships and 13th at her first OUA championship in 2023.
