HAMILTON, Ont. - McMaster University announced Monday that Adam Grandy has been hired as the new Defensive Coordinator for the Marauders football program.

Grandy brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in Canadian football, with 13 seasons of coaching at the U SPORTS level and extensive involvement in youth and developmental programs across the country.

"We are excited to have Coach Grandy join our coaching staff," said Head Coach Stef Ptaszek. "Having Coach Grandy return to McMaster is a special moment for our program. His extensive experience and strategic approach to the game will be critical as we continue to build a strong and competitive team."

Grandy's impressive coaching career includes six years with the Western Mustangs, where he coordinated Special Teams and coached linebackers. During his tenure, the Mustangs captured the 2021 Vanier Cup and won three consecutive conference championships from 2021 to 2023. Prior to his time at Western, Grandy served as the Defensive Coordinator for the University of Guelph from 2016 to 2018. He also led Team Ontario U18 to a gold medal in 2024 and a bronze medal in 2023.

Locally, Grandy has been a cornerstone of youth football development, coaching at M.M. Robinson High School, the Burlington Stampeders (BMFA), and the Hamilton Jr. Tiger-Cats (HFA).

A former Marauder himself, Grandy played linebacker for McMaster from 2003 to 2005 under head coaches Greg Marshall and Marcello Campanaro.

Grandy expressed his excitement about returning to his alma mater:

"I am honoured to take on the role of Defensive Coordinator and return to the place where my U SPORTS football journey began. McMaster holds a special place in my heart, and I look forward to contributing to the team's success and helping our players reach their full potential."

With a coaching philosophy rooted in leadership, communication, and tactical expertise, Ptaszek believes Grandy is an ideal fit for the program.

"Adam's ability to recruit and develop players, combined with his commitment to excellence, aligns perfectly with our program's goals," Ptaszek added.

Grandy will officially join the team on January 6, 2025.
