SEASON PREVIEW: Marauders “confident” heading into 2024-2025 season

HAMILTON, Ont. —The McMaster Marauders take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday, marking their first game of the season.

McMaster is coming off a 12-10 season, placing them third in their division. The maroon shot 42% from the field and averaged 77.8 points per game. The 2023-2024 Marauders would fall in the OUA quarterfinals.

Key Players

Mike Demangus (Scarborough, Ont.), Guard
The 6'4 guard was a big part of the offense for the Marauders last season, averaging 19.1 points, 2.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Demagus says "I'm feeling confident and excited about this season. We've put in a lot of work during the offseason, and the chemistry within the team is stronger than ever. Everyone's locked in on the same goal—bringing home the Wilson Cup…"

Tyler Garcia (Mississauga, Ont.), Guard
The 5'10 guard played in 10 games and averaging 17 and a half minutes a night during the 2023-24 season. Garcia averaged 8.5 points, 3.3 assists per game. He will be counted on as a solid role player for the Marauders.

Ares Culley-Bremner (Hannon, Ont.), Forward
The 6'8 forward is returning from injury that kept him out last season. In the 2022-23 season, Culley-Bremner averaged just under 13 minutes per game and recorded 3.3 points, and 4.2 rebounds per game.

The Marauders added a few key pieces to the team including guards, Anthony Warzeszcz (Mississauga, Ont.), Cashius McNeilly (Scarborough, Ont.) and forward, Tre Edwards (Hamilton, Ont.). Edwards will be a very interesting piece to the team. The 6'7 transfer from UMBC has battled injuries for most of his collegiate career and will look to have a fresh start at McMaster. Edwards will add a nice balance to a position of need for the Marauders.

Marauders Head coach, Patrick Tatham, is confident in his team, he says, "This season we have more experience…we just (have to) stay healthy and stay on the same page…this time we make it over the hump and make it to the OUA final four with an opportunity to place ourselves in the Wilson Cup Final. That is the goal…"

The Marauders will look to snap their 19-year Wilson Cup drought. McMaster begins their quest Friday at 8pm.
