HAMILTON - McMaster Marauders fell 48-8 to the nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons on Friday night in their second home game of the season.
The teams last faced off against each other last fall, with Guelph coming away with a dominant win of 86-5. Despite facing a tough loss tonight, the Marauders bested their score from last year, proving their resilience on defense.
The Marauders were up against some tough competition at home, facing off against the fourth ranked U SPORTS team. Going into the first half, McMaster held strong defensively, leaving the game scoreless until 10 minutes in when Guelph scored their first try, leading 5-0. The Gryphons were confident in their offense, proving their dominant runs up the wing. The visitors were able to score another try but McMaster fought back with a penalty kick by Chayse Palfi to bring the score to 12-3. Guelph showcased their skilled offense with three more tries in the first half.
Going into the second half with Guelph leading 31-3, the Marauders showed their persistence on defence for the first 12 minutes before the Gryphons managed to score a try. Osa Olaye had a strong performance, scoring McMaster's sole try of the game. Taylor Wood made two great breakthrough runs near the end of the second half, but the Marauders weren't able to finish their plays on offense. Guelph responded with two more tries, closing out the score 48-8.

The Marauders will now look forward to playing against the Waterloo Warriors on the road next Saturday at 5pm.
