HAMILTON – After impressive performances at the Dean Boles Divisional Championships, Megan Deering and Sam Chisholm of the Marauder swim team take home Marauder Athlete of the Week honours.
 
Women's Swimming – Megan Deering
At the final swim event of the 2023 calendar year, Megan Deering was absolutely dominant for the Marauders. The Okotoks, Alberta local who is competing for McMaster for the first time this season after suiting up for the Western Mustangs last year, won all four events she was entered in – the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke. Not only was Deering the faster swimmer in her events but she also broke the Dean Boles Divisional Championship record in the 50m breaststroke (31.62), the 100m breaststroke (1:09.28) and the 100m butterfly (1:02.67), qualifying for the U SPORTS Championships in the process. The Accelerated Nursing major was the top scorer at Divisionals amongst all swimmers, male or female, and led the McMaster Marauders women's team to the Dean Boles Divisional title with a team total of 1209 points, 495.5 points ahead of the next best program.

Men's Swimming – Sam Chisholm
Sam Chisholm, a rookie from Thunder Bay, impressed in his first Divisional Championship. The first-year Kinesiology student secured four medals - golds in the 400m and 1500m freestyle along with two silvers in the 200m and 400m individual medley. With a time of 4:00.87 in the 400m freestyle and 15:52.36 in the 1500m freestyle, Chisholm secured qualification for the 2024 U SPORTS Championship, hosted by McGill in March. Sam finished the event as the highest scorer on the men's side, across all schools, thanks to new personal bests in every event. He led the way for McMaster and was key to the Marauders earning the Dean Boles Divisional title on the men's side. As a team, the maroon and grey recorded 1111 points, 351.5 points in front of the second place Brock Badgers.
