Box Score For the first time this season, the McMaster Marauders took on the Guelph Gryphons and blanked them 4-0.
Off the bat, the Marauders came out blazing, playing a highly intensive offensive style, which set them up to take the lead early. In the 13th minute, Ignacia Jimenez sent a corner cross in, while Bryanna Caldwell pulled the goalie out to then sneak the goal in behind.
The team then followed up with Ravina Braich running the ball and weaving through more than 4 of Guelph's defenders to set up Captain Emilie Calabrese with the tip, only 5 minutes after the first goal. Before the clock read 17 minutes, the McMaster Marauders held a 2-0 lead. The Marauders Goalie, Ali Mudie, made some great punches and clears to hold the shutout for her team.
Opening second half, Guelph had a goal deficit to correct and came out with something to prove. A subset of that came an injured Caldwell, who is a core member of the Marauders' back line and steady goal scorer for the squad. The Marauders stepped up with the line change and in the 55th minute, Calabrese struck a bullet from outside of the 30-yard line, which landed inside the mesh.
With the Marauders holding the 3-0 lead, both squads sent in substitutes to shake up the play. Unfortunately for the Gryphons, the Marauders kept their cohesion and the ball found Alyssa Wheeler, who lobbed the ball from outside of the box, into the top left corner in the 80th minute.
The 90 minutes ended the match with a win for the Marauders on their Alumni game.
