OUA honours for Annibale and Guha

Maria Annibale named OUA Rookie of the Year, while Shalagh Guha earns Second Team All-Star recognition

HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders women's soccer team had two student-athletes recognized among the OUA's best on Tuesday, as Maria Annibale (Toronto, Ont.) was named the OUA Rookie of the Year, while Shalagh Guha (Waterloo, Ont.) earned OUA Second Team All-Star honours following impressive performances throughout the 2026 season.

The recognition highlights the contributions of two key players on a young Marauders squad that finished the regular season with a 4-5-3 record, scoring 20 goals while recording four shutouts across 12 conference matches.

McMaster generated 145 shots throughout the campaign, including 85 on target, while averaging 1.67 goals per game. The Marauders also outshot their opponents 145-111 and held a 67-45 advantage in corner kicks.

Maria Annibale | OUA Rookie of the Year

Annibale made an immediate impact in her first season with the Marauders, establishing herself as one of McMaster's most productive attacking players and earning the conference's top rookie honour.

The first-year forward appeared in all 12 regular-season matches, making 10 starts while recording four goals and two assists for a team-leading six points. Her four goals tied Olivia Blair for the team lead, while her 20 shots ranked among McMaster's top offensive contributors.

Annibale demonstrated consistency and efficiency in the attacking third, placing 11 of her 20 attempts on target for a .550 shots-on-goal percentage. She also converted her lone penalty-kick attempt and recorded one game-winning goal.

The Toronto native played an important role in a Marauders attack that produced several impressive performances throughout the season, including a 7-0 victory over Algoma in the season opener and a 5-1 road win against Waterloo in September.

A Kinesiology student, Annibale becomes the second consecutive McMaster women's soccer player to capture OUA Rookie of the Year honours, following teammate Shalagh Guha's recognition in 2025.

Her ability to contribute immediately as a first-year player, combined with her offensive production and presence in the starting lineup, made her a key part of McMaster's attack throughout the campaign.

Shalagh Guha | OUA Second Team All-Star

Following a standout rookie campaign in 2025, Guha continued to establish herself as a cornerstone of the Marauders' defensive unit, earning OUA Second Team All-Star recognition in her second season.

The Waterloo native entered the 2026 campaign as a team co-captain, taking on an increased leadership role while helping guide a young McMaster roster through the regular season.

Guha started all 12 matches, providing consistency along the back line while contributing at both ends of the pitch. The second-year defender recorded one goal on 18 shots, including 10 attempts on target, finishing with a .556 shots-on-goal percentage.

After registering seven points during her OUA Rookie of the Year campaign in 2025, Guha transitioned into a more defensively focused role in 2026, demonstrating her versatility and willingness to adapt to the team's needs.

Her presence helped McMaster record four shutouts throughout the regular season, including victories over York and Waterloo and a scoreless draw against Windsor.

The Marauders allowed 15 goals across 12 matches, averaging 1.25 goals against per game, while limiting opponents to 9.3 shots per contest.

Guha's recognition marks another milestone in her young university career, adding an OUA Second Team All-Star selection to her growing list of accomplishments.

With Annibale emerging as one of the conference's top young attacking talents and Guha continuing to develop into a leader on the back line, the Marauders' two OUA honourees demonstrated the talent and potential within McMaster's women's soccer program.
