The McMaster Marauders men's curling team went 0-2 on Saturday before getting knocked out of the tournament.
Â
In the last two rounds of preliminary play, McMaster took on the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Rams, but unfortunately wouldn't make it to the first round of playoffs at 7pm that evening.
Â
It was instead the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks who took the Championship, defeating the Rams 10-3 in the gold medal match.
Â
In their 9am match against the Varsity Blues, McMaster held the last stone in the first end, but it wouldn't be until the second end that they scored a point. Instead, Toronto stole a point in the first end and continued to build their score from there.
Â
With the hammer, the Varsity Blues racked up two points in the third before stealing another in the fourth and two in the fifth to bring the score to 6-1. The Marauders weren't ready to give up though and came back strong in the sixth end, adding three tallies to their score and handing the hammer back over to Toronto, who took one more point to end the match in the seventh end at 7-4.
Â
Sitting at 1-2 in the tournament, a win against the Rams was necessary for a chance at the banner, but unfortunately the Marauders took an 8-4 loss to the Toronto school later in the afternoon. For the second time of the Championship, McMaster began without the advantage, and it proved beneficial to the Rams, who scored two points in the first end.
Â
McMaster then made sensational use of their throwing accuracy in the second, taking the lead with a three-point end. However, the Rams tied it up in the third and then pushed ahead by stealing one in the fourth.
Â
The Marauders kept themselves in the game through five ends, tying it up again with one stone, but the persistent Rams ran away with it in the final two ends, scoring two points in each the sixth and seventh, ending the match there at 8-4.
