MARAUDERS IDENTIFY DEFENSIVE TALENT FOR THEIR ROSTER

The Marauders football squad adds four new commitments to their roster, diversifying their talent on the defensive side with the addition of Cade Jermyn, Aaron Lavers, David Ogunmefun, and Jaiden Kontoh.

Jaiden Kontoh

SAM | 6'0" 200lbs | St. Roch Catholic Secondary School

Being named defensive player of the year, two years in a row at St. Roch Catholic Secondary School, strong side linebacker Jaiden Kontoh looks forward to being a big contributor and reliable teammate at McMaster. Hailing from Brampton, the athlete also competed in four championships. Growing up playing soccer and basketball along with football, Kontoh proves to be a versatile athletic individual.

Along with moving up to compete at the next level, Kontoh plans to enter the Social Sciences program in the fall.

David Ogunmefun

DB | 6'0" 190lbs | St. Roch Catholic Secondary School

Hailing from Brampton, David Ogunmefun intends to become a key player the Marauders can depend on. The 6-foot defensive back was named athlete of the year at St. Roch Catholic Secondary School in 2018, and was a impactful member of his high school team who won OFSAA in 2021.

Growing up as an all-around athlete, Ogunmefun also competed in basketball, track and field, and volleyball. With intentions to enter the Life Sciences program in the fall, the player hopes to make great impacts on the team as he continues his football career at the next level.

Aaron Lavers

LB | 6'3" 230lbs | Eastview Secondary School

Linebacker Aaron Lavers from Barrie is not short of football awards and leadership positions in his career thus far. Lavers played for the Huronia Stallions football program and throughout his years was named defensive rookie, and defensive MVP, as well as being a captain in 2018. The 6'3" player also competed for the CCI Fighting Owls, and was junior captain in 2018 and 2019, where he was also recognized for Outstanding Athletic Achievement in 2019.

Looking forward to McMaster, Lavers said he selected the school "because of the great atmosphere and workplace environment." Lavers also competed for Team Ontario as a linebacker in 2019, helping his team to a silver medal. His accomplishments led him to being named the 2021-22 Defensive MVP, and recognized as the best linebacker in Simcoe County. Lavers intends on studying in the Social Sciences program in the fall when he arrives at McMaster to play on the big stage.

Cade Jermyn

DB | 6'0" 185lbs | Fenlon Falls Secondary School

Hailing from Bobcaygeon, defensive back Cade Jermyn is not unfamiliar with receiving recognition on his outstanding athletic abilities. The 6-foot athlete was named athlete of the year at Fenlon Falls Secondary School (FFSS) multiple times, along with being a team captain of his football squad.

When asked why he chose McMaster, Jermyn said it was "because of the hard working environment that is led by an intelligent coaching staff." Having come from a strong coaching staff at FFSS, Jermyn mentioned, "the atmosphere was supportive and the coaching staff always promoted hard work, day in and day out," about his high school in an article from Trillium Lakelands District School Board.

Having played competitively as a multisport athlete, Jermyn was a key member of varsity hockey, track and field, basketball, and badminton, along with football. Looking forward, the defensive back intends to enroll in the Engineering program at McMaster in the fall.
