HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders are ready to take to the water at the 2022 OUA Championships this Saturday. After a successful performance last year locking down two OUA medals, McMaster will look to continue the medal hunt in St. Catharines this weekend. The maroon and grey are relatively young and will need their veterans to step up and lead the way.
   
Fourteen crews will come together and race through Saturday in hopes of claiming a conference banner - the Brock Badgers, Carleton Ravens, Guelph Gryphons, Laurentian Voyageurs, McGill Athletics, McMaster Marauders, Nipissing Lakers, Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Queen's Gaels, Toronto Varsity Blues, Trent Excalibur, Waterloo Warriors and Western Mustangs. The Mustangs are the defending champions on the women's side while the Badgers men's crew will look to repeat and keep the title in St. Catharines.

The Marauders have some strong leadership on both squads and will look to leverage that experience this weekend.

On the men's side, Alex Cowman, a fifth-year in his third year of eligibility, has cemented himself as an integral part of the Marauders rowing team. Winning a bronze in the men's lightweight 4+ a year ago at the conference championships, the mechanical engineering and management major is looking to land on the podium once again for the maroon machine. The Clinton, Ont. local is a standout in the classroom as well with his 3.7 GPA, doing well to balance academics with early mornings on the water and the responsibilities associated with being the president of McMaster Rowing.

For the women, Sarah Oresnik is one of the senior leaders for the maroon and grey. She finished fourth in the women's lightweight 1x in 2021 and was a gold medalist this past summer at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in the women's lightweight 8+. Hailing from Winnipeg, Man., the anthropology student has had an impressive season on the water, landing on the podium three times over the fall invitational season. Outside of rowing, Oresnik is completing her PhD in anthropology while also holding the role of vice-president of McMaster Rowing.

Championship action gets underway Saturday morning at 8:30am. All heats will take place early on with the finals taking place in the afternoon. The first medals will be awarded at 12:08pm.

• The distance of each race in the Championship Regatta will be 2000 metres
• All events run at fifteen (15) minute intervals from the start of each race
• The following events will be held at the Championship Regatta:
  • Men's and Women's Eight & Lightweight Eight
  • Men's and Women's Coxed Four & Lightweight Coxed Four
  • Men's and Women's Double & Lightweight Double
  • Men's and Women's Pair & Lightweight Pair
  • Men's and Women's Single & Lightweight Single
