HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders are riding a three game win streak and will face the Brock Badgers Wednesday night at Ron Joyce Stadium in a Round 1 playoff contest. This game will be a rematch of September 30th's game in St. Catharines. At this point in the year, a win is all it takes to extend the season but with both teams looking to clinch a spot in Saturday's OUA quarterfinal, Wednesday night's game is sure to be a close contest.
Brock vs McMaster
OUA Round 1 Playoff
Ron Joyce Stadium | Hamilton, Ont.
October 26th, 2022 @ 7pm
McMaster and Brock are familiar with one another as they have matched up four times since 2019, three times during the regular season and once in an OUA First Round Playoff game. McMaster won the post-season contest by a score of 1-0 in 2019 and will look to repeat this outcome in front of a home crowd at Ron Joyce Stadium this week. The Marauders finished the regular season with 20 points and a 5-2-5 record to lock in the fourth seed in the OUA West while the Badgers were just one spot back with a 5-5-2 record and 17 points.
The maroon and grey closed out the regular season in Hamilton on Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Madison Goertz (Saskatoon, Sask.),
Alena Spehar (Milton, Ont.) and
Joelle Chackal (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded goals for the Marauders in the victory.
With everything on the line, the winner of Wednesday's contest will earn a berth in the OUA quarterfinal and face the Western Mustangs on Saturday.
Last Time Out
When the Badgers and Marauders last met in September, the opening half hour of play was balanced. The Marauders were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out in the 36th minute.
Tiam Pourbakhtiari (Richmond Hill, Ont.) stepped up to take the kick and made no mistake. The fourth-year life sciences student perfectly curved the ball into the top corner of the Brock Badgers' net to give the maroon and grey a 1-0 lead. It was Pourbakhtiari's first goal of the season and also her first as a Marauder. The lead stood as the teams entered the halftime break.
Brock came out of the gates firing, looking for the tying goal in the second half. Despite controlling the possession and outshooting the Marauders in the second half, McMaster held off the Badgers to secure the 1-0 victory, collecting the three points in the process.
