AN HOANG: THE NEW MARAUDERS WOMENS RUGBY HEAD COACH

The McMaster Marauders women's rugby team has made it official with the hiring of An Hoang as the program's newest head coach.

For the past year, Hoang has been serving the team as the interim head coach. During that time period she recruited impressive talent for the 2021-2022 recruitment class with six new names added to the roster. Hoang also played a large role in the Marauders Asian Heritage Month, as a member of both the planning committee and panel member.

Before her time at McMaster, Hoang obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree – Political Science & Economics - from the University of Calgary, along with a master's degree in Business Administration from the Australian Institute of Business. Hoang is also certified as a Chartered Managerial Accountant (CMA), which is recognized and respected as a global benchmark.

When it comes to Hoang's rugby resume it is filled with accolades. As a player, Hoang competed on the woman's rugby team at the University of Calgary. Which then transitioned to a myriad of coaching opportunities.

Hoang has been on the coaching staff for teams within Toronto District School Board's Division 1 to Provincial and National teams all the way to Professional teams. She has worked with Meraloma RFC as a Technical skills Coach and as a Performance Analyst, Skills Coach, Conditioning Coach, Assistant Coach and also as a Head Coach during her time at the club. Hoang also served as a Team Captain and Head Coach for Vietnam Rugby's National Development of their Rugby 7's Program. She also worked with BC Rugby Union from 2016 to 2019 with both the U18 and U16 Women's programs, as an Assistant Coach of the U18 team, and Head Coach of the U16 team. Hoang's last role before joining the Marauders was with Rugby Canada's U18 Program as a Technical Skills Coach and Western Regional Selector.

As a testament to Hoang's coaching talent, she has been a nominee for Rugby Canada's Female Coach of the Year, a finalist for the BC Sport Emerging Leader Award, along with a finalist for the North Shore Sports Coach of the Year.

Hoang's official Marauder coaching career debut will take place on September 24th at home against the Guelph Gryphons.
