It is with great sadness that the McMaster Marauders mourn the passing of Hall of Fame member, Gary Inness.
Â
Born in Toronto, Inness had quite a remarkable career at McMaster University, competing for both the ice hockey and football teams. On two occasions, Inness was named the Most Valuable Player on the Marauders hockey team and would go on to earn a league all-star nod.Â
Â
For his outstanding athletic achievements, he was named McMaster's athlete of the decade for the 1960's. Inness went on to graduate with a degree in History and Physical Education in 1972.
Â
In 1973, Inness made his professional career debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins, after going undrafted as a goaltender. He would later go on to play for the Philadelphia Flyers, as well as the Washington Capitals, before retiring in 1981.
Â
Going from hockey pads to chalk and textbooks, Inness later became a teacher and served as a guidance counsellor at Barrie North Collegiate Institute.
Â
Following a rich history of McMaster hockey, Inness' name was etched in history as he was inducted into the McMaster Hall of Fame in 1986.
Â
To his family, loved ones, and all who knew him, we pay our deepest condolences.
