Women's Volleyball: Marauders Collect Seventh Sweep at Lakers Expense

Mac blows past Nipissing to move to 12-3

Box Score McMaster found themselves on the lucky side of number seven against the Nipissing Lakers Saturday. The Marauders claimed their seventh sweep of the season while handing the Lakers their seventh loss, who now sit at .500 with an even 7-7 record in the OUA East Division.

The win improves Mac's record to 12-3, as they remain second in the OUA's West Division behind Western. McMaster has four remaining matches to play in the regular season.

Maicee Sorensen and Aleks Arsovic led the offensive charge for the Marauders, both scoring 11 points in the three-set match.

Nipissing entered the match hoping to counter McMaster's attack at the net. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the result was an exposed backcourt that the Marauders took full advantage of, forcing the Lakers to adjust their strategy. The Marauders would more than double up on the Lakers, winning the first set 25-12.

The Lakers would only make things easier for the Marauders, as Nipissing tallied 23 attack errors while the Marauders would only have eight against their 32 kills.

McMaster would eventually win with scores of 25-17 and 25-12 in the final two sets to complete the 3-0 sweep.

In all three sets, the Lakers failed to get any higher than .051 attack percentage. As the Marauders continued to execute their game and tip rallies in their favour, the Lakers would be left with little time to effectively make adjustments and take claim to any momentum.

McMaster's service game was strong Saturday against the Lakers. Maicee Sorensen tallied five of the Marauders' ten aces, which will improve her service aces per set average that now ranks first in the nation at 0.66. Sorensen is one of three Marauders in the U Sports Top 10 for that statistical category. Joanna Jedrzejewska (0.61) and Alicia Jack (0.57) rank third and seventh respectfully.

McMaster will be back in action on Friday, February 17 when they take on the Waterloo Warriors. The Warriors currently rank fourth in the OUA West at 8-4 as they try to hold on to a berth in the playoffs. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. in Waterloo's PAC Athletic Centre.
