Women's Soccer: Mustangs Sink Marauders with Quick Response

Roberts' second-half goal not enough as Mac falls 2-1

Box Score The hard work of pegging their opponents was undone in mere minutes Friday, as McMaster saw their winning ways end in London. The Marauders levelled the match in the second half, before ultimately falling 2-1 to the Western Mustangs.

Stephanie Roberts had the lone goal for the Marauders (2-6-2) in the loss, while Deanna Persico saved five of the seven shots she faced between the McMaster posts.

The pair of Stefanie Di Tella and Grace Grafham scored for the Mustangs (6-0-4), who remained unbeaten with Friday's result.

Putting the Marauders on the back foot early, the hosts struck in just the 12th minute, as Di Tella opened the scoring.

Roberts gave the visitors hope for at least a point in their tough road encounter, potting her goal in the 52nd to level the game at a goal apiece.

But just three minutes later, Grafham capped a Western move with a goal to restore the home side's lead, one they would not relinquish.

Up Next: McMaster returns home to Ron Joyce Stadium for a Homecoming Weekend match up with the Windsor Lancers on Sunday, October 2. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
