Box Score A slow start proved costly for McMaster on Saturday, as the Marauders fell behind the CIS no. 3-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues early and never truly recovered, losing in straight sets at the Burridge Gym.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22 for the Blues, who remained unbeaten at 17-0 with the victory. The Marauders, meanwhile, fall to 14-3 and slip below the Western Mustangs to second in the OUA West standings.
Veteran middle hitter Bojana Radan starred for the Blues, killing eight of 12 hitting attempts versus just two errors (.500) while adding an ace and three solo blocks for 12 points. Teammates Caleigh Cruickshank and Alina Dormann led the team with 13 points apiece, while Dormann posted a match-high total of 12 kills.
Meanwhile, Marauder middle Maicee Sorensen was a particularly bright spot in a losing effort, killing 11 of 18 attempts with just a single error (.556) while adding an ace and a block for a team high 13 points.
Toronto's defence and passing prowess were difference makers on Saturday, as the Blues held the Marauders to a team hitting percentage of just eight through three sets, while reaching 21 per cent efficiency themselves.
