Men's Volleyball: Mac Suffers First Loss of OUA Season

Box Score The honeymoon period for McMaster's self-proclaimed "All-Blacks" came to an end on Saturday, at the hands of a tenacious Toronto Varsity Blues team. A 2-1 lead evaporated in the late stages, as McMaster suffered their first loss of the season with their starting roster resting for the upcoming OUA Final Four.

Set scores were 24-26, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-10 for the Blues, who improved to 10-7 with the win and put a game between themselves and the Waterloo Warriors for fourth place in the conference.

The result had no impact on the Marauders, who clinched the top spot in the OUA with Thursday night's win over the Ryerson Rams.

Outside hitter Will Colucci carried the offensive load for Toronto, killing 23 of a whopping 46 attempts versus nine errors (.304), while adding three blocks for a game high of 26 points.

Second-year middle Peter Khodkevych provided the high point for the Marauders in the loss, killing 12 of 20 attempts with just two errors, while adding four blocks. Leading Mac in offensive usage, Craig Ireland posted a team high 16 kills on 31 attempts versus seven errors (.290).

Ultimately, it was their errors that undid the Marauders, who actually outscored their opponents 77-66 in points earned, but committed a total of 28 hitting errors and reached just 22 per cent as a team.
