Box Score Their confidence has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two weeks, and Wednesday saw that belief mature into full-on swagger for the Marauders. McMaster swept aside Waterloo 3-0 for their fourth win of their past five matches, continuing their charge back into the OUA playoff picture.
Maila Carboni, Jessie Faber and
Safia Fettah each had goals for the Marauders (4-6-2), who moved into possession of the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA West division with the result. The Brock Badgers, who have a game in hand, will play host to the York Lions Thursday.
Continuing her remarkable stretch between the posts for McMaster, goalkeeper
Deanna Persico recorded her fourth clean sheet in five games since returning to the Marauders lineup following an injury, making 4 saves Wednesday.
The home side opened the scoring in the 28th minute, when
Stephanie Roberts' quick touch gave Carboni an opening, and she turned and fired home her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Turning on the class just before the break, Faber doubled Mac's advantage in the 41st, stepping into a ball at the edge of the box and curling a shot inside the far post.
Fettah put the game beyond doubt, and triggered a mass exodus of starters, with a top-quality effort of her own in the 56th minute. Running at the Waterloo backline just outside the box, Fettah thumped a low shot off the near post and in.
While the cast of characters changed dramatically after that third goal, the direction of play remained the same, as McMaster threatened on several occasions to add a fourth goal to their tally.
UP NEXT: The Marauders enjoy over a week away from competition, before travelling to Sault Ste. Marie for a weekend set with the Algoma Thunderbirds on October 15 and 16.
