Box Score Maila Carboni continued the hot start to her rookie season on Saturday, and fired the Marauders into their first victory of the OUA season. The first-year striker had the game's only goal in the 40th minute, as McMaster defeated Windsor 1-0 at Ron Joyce Stadium.
The two teams looked to be well matched in the opening half, and each was able to craft its fair share of scoring opportunities. The most serious threat to the Marauders came in the 31st minute, when Lancer midfielder Paiten Stephens thumped a heavy shot just wide of the home side's far post.
Nine minutes later, it was the hosts who found the game's opening tally, as Carboni netted her second of the season by chesting down a bouncing ball in the box, turning and firing a well-placed shot into the top corner of the Windsor net.
The remaining five minutes of the first half were fairly uneventful, and McMaster comfortably took their advantage into the break.
Predictably, the Lancers pressed for an equalizer early and often in the second half, but a combination of the Marauders organized defending and their own inability to apply the final touch kept the visitors off the scoresheet. A week ago, the Marauders had seen a late lead painfully slip away, but they showed that lessons had indeed been learned, and battened down the hatches to win their first match of the 2015 season.
McMaster will look to add another game to the win column on Sunday, when the Brock Badgers pay a visit to Ron Joyce Stadium. That match will get underway at 1:00 p.m. and is free of charge for spectators.
