Box Score The venue was different on Thursday, but the result was the same for the Marauders and Lions, as the York outfit made good on a sole scoring chance to come away with a 1-0 win in Toronto. It matched the scoreline of the two teams' previous meeting just over a week ago at Ron Joyce Stadium.
Taylor Lyons had the only goal of the match for the Lions, who remained undefeated and atop the OUA West standings with the result. McMaster, meanwhile fell to 2-2-1, with both losses coming to York.
Neither team showed much in the way of offensive flair in the opening half, and chances were few and far between as play remained largely in the midfield. The match was scoreless entering the halftime break, but the hosts would find their opening when play resumed.
Shannon Wood looped a cross into the McMaster box, and Lyons latched on to the ball and headed past Cristina Abbatangelo in the Marauder goal.
The Marauders began to exert more pressure as the half wore on and the need for a goal grew, and striker Stephanie Roberts created the best of those chances midway through the frame. The McMaster rookie forward broke away down the left wing and fired a low shot that the York goalkeeper could only parry back into play, but the Marauders couldn't get on the end of the rebound.
Ultimately, the Lions looked comfortable in protecting their lead, and claimed the season series against the Marauders.
McMaster can rebound quickly from the Thursday setback, as they return to action on Sunday, September 13 when they travel to St. Catharines to take on the Brock Badgers.
