The Guelph Gryphons remain the only team to score against the Marauders this season. The only problem? They scored twice on Saturday, dealing McMaster its first loss of the season, 2-1 in Guelph.
Jared Agyemang and Stephen Veenema had the goals for Guelph (6-1-2), who overtook McMaster (5-1-2) for second in the OUA West standings with the result.
Mark Reilly had his team-leading sixth goal of the season for the Marauders (5-1-2) in a losing effort.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Marauders, which included a stretch of 485 shutout minutes shared between goalkeepers Angelo Cavalluzzo and Kieran Doyle-Davis.
Agyemang was quick to put an end to that streak, striking for the game's first goal in just the sixth minute.
The 1-0 score held until the half, but Guelph added a second in the 61st minute, when the defender Veenema potted his first goal of the season.
Reilly ensured a tense ending to Saturday's match, scoring in the 77th minute to draw his team to within a goal. But it was too little, too late for McMaster, as the CIS no. 8-ranked Marauders saw their divisional rivals snatch all three points on the day.
The Marauders will look to bounce back quickly in a day's time, as they return to Ron Joyce Stadium to wrap up Homecoming weekend against the Waterloo Warriors. That match will get underway at 3:15 p.m., followng the conclusion of the preceding women's match.
