WOMEN'S SOCCER STAGES COMEBACK TO BEAT YORK

The Marauder women's soccer team countered a setback quickly, and struck again in the second half, en route to a 2-1 comeback victory over the York Lions on Saturday.

Stephanie Davis and Emma Mangialardi scored for McMaster (4-2-5), as the Marauders moved three points clear of the Lions (3-3-5) and into sole possession of fourth place in the OUA West standings with the road win.

The home side drew first blood on Saturday, as sophomore striker Adeife Adekusibe bundled a rebound past McMaster's Duffey to give York a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. But the Marauders trailed for only five minutes before drawing level.

A low cross came to Davis, and the third-year forward slotted in her second goal of the season to peg the Lions back almost immediately. That scoreline held as the teams entered the halftime break, but McMaster overturned it quickly when play resumed.

Mangialardi was the beneficiary of the Marauders bright start to the second half, scoring her first goal of the year to nudge the visitors ahead 2-1. A typically strong defensive effort saw out the result for McMaster, as Brittany Duffey stopped eight of nine shots to secure three points on the afternoon.

The Marauders return to Ron Joyce Stadium on Sunday to make their own mark on Homecoming weekend with a matinee contest against the UOIT Ridgebacks. The opening whistle for that game is slated for 1:00 p.m.
