McMaster's playoff journey came to an end by the narrowest of margins on Wednesday. The Marauder women's soccer team lost its first-round match in a penalty shootout to the UOIT Ridgebacks, following a scoreless draw through 120 minutes of play.
The Ridgebacks converted on two spot kicks and denied all of the Marauders' attempts to clinch their place in the divisional quarterfinals and bring McMaster's season to a close.
The visiting Marauders had five attempts on goal over the course of regular and extra time, but could not solve Ridgeback goalkeeper Melissa MacKinnon. Meanwhile, McMaster's own goalkeeper, Brittany Duffey did well to turn aside 10 shots and keep her side one shot from advancing.
That was not to be, however, as the Ridgebacks proved the more clinical of the two teams in the shootout.
