MARAUDERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH GRYPHONS

Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders hosted the Guelph Gryphons in a doubleheader on Sunday, September 23. The first game saw the Marauders earn the win, but Guelph would get revenge in the second.

At the 1:00pm game, McMaster got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the first inning. Paul Saville (Dundas, Ont.) advanced to 1st base with a single to left field and Andrew Cochran (Hamilton, Ont.) would follow after being hit by a pitch. Next up to bat would be Jake Chiaravalle (Hamilton, Ont.). The first-year would  hit a triple to center field and would earn two RBI's on the hit as Saville and Cochran would run it in for the 2-0 lead. Before the inning was over, Cameron Ryerson (Mississauga, Ont.) would hit a single, allowing Chiaravalle to earn the third run of the inning.

Later, at the top of the fourth, Guelph would earn three runs of their own to tie the game up. With a walk and then a single to left field, Gryphon Lenny Wood (Zephyr, Ont.) would hit a triple to right field to score two runs. Wood would later get the run for the third one of the inning.

The Marauders would take back the lead at the bottom of the fourth with a run from Sean McConnell (Oakville, Ont.), who was originally walked. Keith Woodcock (Etobicoke, Ont.) would earn the RBI.

Once again the Gryphons would tie the game up with a run in the fifth inning from Sean Molony (Pickering, Ont.) earning the RBI and Justin Interisano (Guelph, Ont.) getting the run.

McMaster would seal the deal in the sixth. McConnell was the first to get on base with a single to left field and would be subbed out for Travis Gibson (Cobourg, Ont.) at first base. Next to get on base was Brandon Da Silva (Cambridge, Ont.) and he would later steal second. Travis Flint (Hamilton, Ont.) was hit by a pitch later in the inning to load the bases. When Cole Lewis (Mississauga, Ont.) was hit by a pitch by Guelph pitcher Stephen Fried (Brampton, Ont.), it would score Gibson. Cochran would later earn the RBI for Flint's run to finish off the inning.

Pitcher Tomas Rincon (Oakville, Ont.) would save the game for McMaster in the final inning of the game and Carlos Cabrero (Burlington, Ont.) would earn the win, only allowing five hits  and recording four strike outs.

In the second game of the doubleheader, both teams got off to a good start. Guelph would go up 2-1 after the first inning with Ryan Thompson (Caledon, Ont.) earning two RBI's on a single to left field with Steve Fleischer (Brampton, Ont.) and Marc Mongillo (Toronto) scoring. McMaster's one run in the first came from Flint, thanks to an RBI from Chiaravalle.

The second inning would see McMaste tie it up with a home run from Da Silva. Pitcher Ryerson would record his first strike out of the game, but in the third, would allow Fleischer to score from a sacrifice fly from Interisano, as Guelph would retake the lead.

Later in the game, the Gryphons would score twice to go ahead 5-2. Ryerson would give up three singles to score Peter Riccardi (Pickering, Ont.) and later Fleischer with Mongillo and Interisano earning the RBI's. The Marauders would score one in the fifth inning with Saville earning the run and Chiaravalle getting the RBI, but it wouldn't be enough to overtake the Gryphons.

The Marauders continue their season with a doubleheader matched up with the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, September 29.
