MARAUDERS TAKE DOWN RIVAL MUSTANGS IN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL ACTION

Box Score London, Ont. - The McMaster men's volleyball team continued their win streak on Sunday against the Western Mustangs on the road. They will head into the second half of the season as the only undefeated team left in the OUA.

Set scores in McMaster's 3-1 win were 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-19. In the first set, McMaster trailed for most of the set, but in the end would put together a balanced attack that would end the game in their favour. In the second, the Marauders were in control, leading 23-17, but Mustang Phil James would go on a serving run that would give Western the lead and ultimately the second set win. 

In the third, despite McMaster being down 8-4, Alex Elliot was brought into the game and the Marauder block took over to help solidify the go-ahead set. In the fourth, the Marauders would take control and go off on the offensive for the 3-1 win. 

Rookie middle Dany Demyanenko recorded an outstanding 20 points in the four set match that included a game-high 17 kills, two blocks and an ace. Rookie Jayson McCarthy followed his teammate with 14.5 points on 10 kills, two aces and 2.5 blocks.

Kevin Stevens and Stephen Maar also hit double digits against the Mustangs with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Setter Austin Campion-Smith recorded 43 assists in the win.

For the Mustangs, veteran Garrett May scored a team-high 18 points on 16 kills and two aces. James added another 11 points for Western and Luke Sim rounded it out with 10 points of his own.

McMaster will take a break and resume the OUA regular season on January 11 with a game against the Toronto Varsity Blues in Burridge Gymnasium.
