BLED, SLOVENIA - The Canadian men's 8+ of Will Crothers (Kingston, ON), Rob Gibson (Kingston, ON), Andrew Byrnes (Toronto, ON), Malcolm Howard (Victoria, BC), Conlin McCabe (Brockville, ON), Doug Csima (Oakville, ON), Jeremiah Brown (Cobourg, ON), Gabe Bergen (100 Mile House, BC), and Brian Price (Belleville, ON) rowed their way to a bronze medal finish at the rowing World Championships in the A final. Of the line-up, McMaster alumni, Doug Csima and Jeremiah Brown (previously on the McMaster football team), qualifed for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Back in July, Csima and Brown placed fifth in the men's eight at World Cup 2011 in Lucerne with an overall time of 5:49.23. The first place boat from Germany had a time of 5:43.52. At the World Championships, Germany won again with a time of 5:28.81, and Great Britain placed second with a time of 5:30.83. Canada edged off Australia by 0.41 seconds for a third place finish with a time of 5:31.18. Australia finished with 5:31.59.
Present in the A final, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, Poland, and the Netherlands have proven to be intense competitors for the 2012 Olympic games.
