Former McMaster Marauder heads to 2011 World Rowing Championships

With the 2011 FISA Rowing World Cup complete, the Canadian national team has set their sights on the 2011 World Rowing Championships to be held in Bled, Slovenia from August 28 to September 4. With 10 Olympic class and three non-Olympic class entries, former Marauder, Doug Csima (Oakville, ON) will represent Canada in the men's 8+.

A graduate of the Nursing program (2007), Csima began rowing at McMaster in 2003 where he quickly made his way onto Canada's U23 team after graduation. He previously represented Canada at the Canada Summer Games in 2005, bringing home two silver medals and one bronze medal in the eight (8+), straight four (4-), and pair (2-) respectively. He was also part of the men's quad (4x) at World Cup 1 2009 that won a bronze medal, as well as the men's 8+ at World Cup 3 2009 that claimed silver.

Csima will row alongside Will Crothers (Kingston, ON), Rob Gibson (Kingston, ON), Andrew Byrnes (Toronto, ON), Malcolm Howard (Victoria, BC), Conlin McCabe (Brockville, ON), Jeremiah Brown (Cobourg, ON), Gabe Bergen (100 Mile House, BC), and Brian Price (Belleville, ON). Hosting 1213 rowers from 68 countries, the World Championships serve as a key qualification regatta for the 2012 Olympic Games.
