MCMASTER QUALIFIES FOR OWIFA CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster fast pitch team faced the Guelph Gryphons this past weekend and went 1-1 in double header action. On Sunday, the Marauders took on the Toronto Varsity Blues. 

The Marauders were on the board in the first inning with Kaylyn Roloson's (Hagersville, Ont.) patience at the plate as she walked. Julia Catalano (Brampton, Ont.) laid down a bunt to move her over and Mel Furtado (Mississauga, Ont.) hit a fly ball to score Roloson. In the third inning, rookie Kayla King (Port Hope, Ont.) had a single shot up the middle. Shannon Mayhew (Cambridge, Ont.) hit a double and is credited with the RBI for King.

The Marauders rallied again the fifth inning starting with Furtado being walked. King shot a single, a double came from Mayhew and another double came from Kelsey Harper (Stoney Creek, Ont.).

In the sixth inning
, Catalano hit a triple to left field and Furtado hit a single to left field. Next up to bat was Mayhew who had a single up the middle. Harper hit a double to left left to score Furtado and Mayhew. Jen Golding (Hamilton, Ont.) had a solid hit to left field to score Harper and McMaster won this game 10-6 over Guelph.

The next game against Guelph was a close one but in the end the Gryphons took the game 12-8.

On Sunday, Mac faced Toronto and lost both games 10 -0 and 10-6. It was a cold, windy fall day but Furtado pitched a fantastic game. 

The McMaster fast pitch team has qualified for the Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate Fast Pitch Association Provincial Championship this weekend in London, Ont. McMaster's first game of the championship weekend is against the Western Mustangs on Friday night at 5:30pm. They play again on Saturday against the Windsor Lancers at 4:30pm and the rest of their game will be determined based on their success.
