Hamilton, Ont. - The playoff implications are huge as the McMaster Marauder football team looks forward to its game with the Ottawa Gee Gees this Saturday, October 22 at Ron Joyce Stadium. The winner of the contest will finish second in the OUA standings and get a home berth directly into the league semi-finals on November 5, 2011. Kick-off on Saturday is set for 1 PM.
The Marauders currently sit second in the OUA with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss, just behind the Western Mustangs, who are undefeated in seven games and have clinched first-place overall. With a record of 5 wins and 2 losses, Ottawa sits one game behind McMaster and is tied with Queen’s in the standings.
McMaster returns to the friendly confines of Ron Joyce Stadium, after gutting out a 25-6 win at Laurier in adverse weather conditions. Ottawa needed a last-second field goal to defeat Windsor 32-30 at home to keep alive its hopes of a second-place finish.
While both teams are playoff bound, each will be looking to avoid a quarter-final game if possible, and fans can expect each aside to leave everything on the field. Eliminating one step in the race for the Yates Cup is a HUGE advantage and both teams are aware of the stakes heading into Saturday’s game. OUA quarter-finals will be played on October 29, 2011.
