Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster women's fastpitch team added to their two game win streak with another two wins on October 1 over the Laurier Golden Hawks.
In the second inning of the game, McMaster started its rally with Kayla King being walked. Shannon Mayhew hit a double shot up the middle with the credit of an RBI and a single from Hannah Hallsworth to drive in
Mayhew to make the score 2-1 for the Marauders.
McMaster was back on the board in the fourth with Mayhew hitting a triple to left field and Hallsworth with a single again to score the run. With Kelsey Harpur and Hannah Hallsworth on the bags, Shelby Montour moved everyone around with her double to right field.
Coach Oda switched Marauder pitchers in the bottom of the fourth from Kaylyn Roloson to Mel Furtado. Furtado got the second out for McMaster and served up a hit to third. Julia Catalano for the third out a nice and easy throw to first.
In the top of the sixth inning, Montour was walked; Furtado doubled to left centre field with the RBI credit for Montour, Furtado stole third and Britt Hicks was credited with the RBI with her single to centre field.
In the top of the seventh, Montour touched a pitch for a single, Furtado doubled to left field, Catalano singled in the middle to score Furtado, Hicks hits a single to move Catalano and King hits a single to right centre field to cash in Catalano for the run. The final score was 9-7 for McMaster.
In the second game of the double header, the Marauders were on the board early in the game with five runs in the first inning. Furtado was walked and Hicks moved her with a single up the middle. King came up to bat and hit a single to right field to score Furtado. Mayhew stepped to the plate and hit a bomb to left field for a triple scoring Hicks and King. Hallsworth touched a double to left centre field to score Mayhew. Jen Golding hit a single and scored Hallsworth.
Julia Catalano started the second inning with a single to right field followed by Hicks double to centre field. Next up to bat was King and she doubles down a shot along the third baseline to score Catalano and Hicks. Shannon Mayhew brought her hitting stick this weekend as she cranked a triple to right field. Mayhew was credited with two RBI’s. Megan Raczkowski hit a nice single up the middle and the next two batters, Montour and Furtado walk. Catalano singles to left field to put Raczkowski and Montour in the book. Hicks steps the plate for a double and cashes in Catalano and Furtado. King's second appearance in the inning scores Hicks to make the score 9-0.
McMaster’s offense didn’t stop in the third inning as they added four runs to the books. Raczkowski hit a double, Golding tripled to right field and Montour doubled to score Golding. Catalano singled to score Montour and Hicks with a double to finish off the inning which scored Catalano. The Marauders got the credit of the win with the final score 18-11.
On Sunday, the Marauders faced the University of Waterloo and lost both games with a score of 9-2 and 7-3. A special mention to Melaine Futado’s pitching over the weekend.
McMaster is on the road October 15-16 against the University of Guelph and University of Toronto.
