MARAUDERS LEAD CANADIAN SEVENS AT THE PAN AM GAMES

Hamilton, Ont. - There is a strong Maroon tint to the Canadian rugby sevens squad that is competing at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Current captain of the McMaster rugby team Tyler Ardron and Marauder alumnus Mike Scholz are both in Mexico as members of the Canadian side.

Canada will compete in a pool with the USA, Chile, and Brazil with the tournament starting on October 29, 2011. The other pool is made up of: Argentina, Mexico, Guyana, and Uruguay.

Tyler Ardron is currently in his third-year at McMaster and helped lead the Marauders to the 2010 OUA championship. He was also the captain of the Canadian U-21 national team that competed last summer at the Junior Rugby World Cup. Mike Scholz is just recently returned from New Zealand, where he was a member of the Canadian senior team that competed at the just concluded World Cup of Rugby.

The Pan Am Games competition is seen as a major event for the development of Rugby Sevens, which will be included in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
