Women's Basketball
October 31st - L: 57-78 vs Toronto Metropolitan | Box Score
There was a lot of excitement coming into the game between the McMaster women's basketball team and the TMU Bold women in an early season matchup of two teams ranked in the top five nationally with TMU coming in at #2 and the Marauders at #5. Both teams were unbeaten in OUA play this season with McMaster having two lopsided wins at home against Nipissing and the University of Toronto.
Veteran 4th year player Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) responded to TMU's early pressure by putting the first points on the board for McMaster. However, a 12-0 run by TMU put the visitors up by 14 points at 18-4. Not willing to let the game get out of hand, McMaster immediately struck back with a 9-0 run of their own keyed by 7 points from Frankovic and 2 from Keira Daly (Hamilton, Ont.). The first quarter ended with TMU up 20-13.
Natalie Keys (Peterborough, Ont.) got the Marauders started with the first bucket of the second quarter and another trifecta from Frankovic closed the gap to just two points at 20-18. The second quarter was a seesaw affair that saw the Marauders take the lead at 25-23 following a tough and-one by Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.). However, the TMU women replied with another run (12-0) that put them up 35-25 before a Daly bucket from deep downtown stopped the slide. Another late three from Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) completed the first half scoring with the Marauders trailing only by 8 points at 39-31.
