The McMaster Marauders (2-3-1) women's soccer team earned a thrilling victory on Friday night, defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-1-3) 2-1 at home. The Marauders entered the field with special custom kits, honouring Truth and Reconciliation. This special-edition McMaster kit was created with artist Kyle Joedicke and xeist sports, featuring the new Indigenous Marauder logo.
McMaster came out strong, controlling possession early in the game. An early corner from Jade Abreo (Mississauga, Ont.) set the tone, while Shalagh Guha (Toronto, Ont.) tested the keeper, nearly connecting on a long free kick. The breakthrough moment came in the 21st minute when Shalagh Guha (Toronto, Ont.) chipped a ball over the Laurier keeper to give McMaster a 1-0 lead. The Marauders continued to press with shots from Molly Palladino (Mississauga, Ont.), Megan Soo (Vancouver, B.C). McMaster carried the one-goal advantage into halftime.
During this match up on Friday, the halftime show featured young performers from Mississauga of the Credit First Nation Group.

However, mid way through the second half, an unfortunate ricochet from Laurier found the back of the net, setting a deadlock 1-1. Despite the setback, McMaster stayed composed under pressure, with the support of goalie Ali Mudie (Burlington, Ont.) who made multiple key saves, including an acrobatic tip over the left side of the bar to keep the game tied. In stoppage time, the Marauders' persistence paid off when Tiam Pourbakhtiaria (Richmond Hill, Ont.) found Mea Martel (Ottawa, Ont.) in the box and Martel buried the game-winner into the corner, sealing a dramatic 2-1 victory.
