HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders (13-5) returned to Burridge Gymnasium on Friday evening to face the Queen's Gaels (15-3).
The Marauders came out strong in the first set, with service aces from
Abby Delamere (Ancaster, Ont.) and
Olivia Julien (Toronto, Ont.) to get the game underway. Both teams played well, keeping the score close throughout. It was tied 24-24 until Julien delivered two more service aces, securing a 27-25 win for the Marauders.
In the second set,
Emma McKinnon (Milton, Ont.), Delamere, and Angelica Vidmar (Etobicoke, Ont.) contributed key kills to hold off the Gaels. Julien added another kill to take the set for McMaster, 25-20.
The Marauders played with confidence in the third set, jumping to an early lead. A service ace from McKinnon gave McMaster a 5-0 advantage, which they maintained throughout. Vidmar finished the match with a kill, sealing a 25-15 win and a 3-0 sweep for the Marauders.
On Saturday, McMaster held senior night for its last regular-season home game to honour graduating Marauders McKinnon,
Hayley Brookes (Burlington, Ont.), and
Sullie Sundara (Kanata, Ont.). The Marauders capped off the weekend with a clean sweep against the Gaels.
McMaster came out strong in the first set, taking the lead over the Gaels. Continuous kills from Delamere, Julien, and Sundara helped extend the lead, while service aces from
Chayse Victoria (Oakville, Ont.), Julien, and back-to-back aces from Sundara contributed to a 25-14 set win for the Marauders.
The second set was closer as the Gaels continued to pressure McMaster. Victoria made her second service ace of the night to bring the score to 15-11, but Queen's managed to close the gap. Vidmar brought the set to a close with a powerful kill, winning 25-23.
The Marauders had a lot of energy in the third set. Vidmar made back-to-back aces to help extend McMaster's lead, followed by strong kills from her teammates. After a great play, the Marauders finished it off with a strong kill from Julien, bringing the score to 22-16. McMaster went on to win the set 25-16, finishing the match 3-0 and sweeping the weekend.
