WATERLOO, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders (13-5) ended their regular season this weekend with a doubleheader against the Waterloo Warriors (13-5).
In game one on Friday, McMaster's offense got started quickly, putting together multiple series of kills to stay ahead of the Warriors. Later in the set, Chayse Victoria (Oakville, Ont.) would hit a service ace to go up by two. McMaster took the first set 25-22. Angelika Vidmar (Etobicoke, Ont.) took control of the Marauder offense early in set two adding a kill and then followed up with a service ace. The Marauders would fall behind near the end of set two and end up falling 25-19 to the Warriors. McMaster came out strong in set three and after more strong hitting and a service ace from Abby Delamere (Toronto, Ont.), the Marauders would find themselves up by four. Waterloo would then go on a run but McMaster would use a service ace from Vidmar to help spark their offense. Victoria would tie the game up at 21 with a service ace and set three would need extra points to decide a winner. Waterloo would sneak by the Marauders to take set three 30-28. Sullie Sundara (Kanata, Ont.) came alive in the fourth set with an early kill and service ace. McMaster would hold on to the lead throughout set four winning it 25-19 to force a fifth set. McMaster would not have an answer to the Waterloo offensive pressure in the fifth and fall 15-4 in the final set. Vidmar led the Marauder offense with 15 kills in the game and Sundara would end the game with 25 digs.
On Saturday, the Marauders had a chance at redemption. Vidmar led the rush early in set one, hitting a few kills. McMaster then went on a five point run ending with back to back service aces from Sundara. Delemare would lead another rush later on, adding a service ace of her own. Sundara would help the Marauders close out the first set hitting back to back kills, as McMaster took set one 25-18. Sundara's serving would again take charge, adding two aces to put the Marauders up by four early in the second set. Emma McKinnon (Milton, Ont.) would add to the Marauder offense hitting two back to back kills and helping force a Waterloo time out. McMaster closed out set two with four straight points to win 25-10 with a service ace from Olivia Julien (Toronto, Ont.). The score stayed close early in the third set. Following a Marauder timeout, Julien would hit a service ace to keep the score within two. Madeleine Lutes (Barrie, Ont.) later hit a service ace as well to tie the set at 19. McMaster would then pull away to win the final set 25-22.
