HAMILTON, Ont. — The Marauders track team will start the charge for OUA gold on Friday in Windsor. Last year, the women's track team earned a gold and bronze in the 3000m, while the men's team took the bronze in the 4x800m relay. The Marauders are medal contenders in numerous events this year including the 1500m, 3000m and 4x800m relay. Both 4x800m relay teams are ranked 4th in the OUA. Ana Morariu (Kincardine, Ont.) is ranked 2nd in the 3000m. Alexander Purnell (Dundas, Ont.) is ranked 1st in the OUA in the 3000m and 3rd in the 1500m. Purnell, a fifth year, Master of Psychotherapy student, is bringing some veteran leadership to the team, having competed in five past OUA championships, but this being his first representing McMaster. Purnell is ranked 1st in U SPORTS in the 3000m and 4th in the 1500m. He has broken three McMaster school records this season in the 3000mc(7:54.72), mile (4:00.09) and 1500m (3:42.00).

Fourth year, Medicine student, Kaitlyn Treleaven (Hamilton, Ont.) also is bringing many years of championship experience to the team, with this year being her third time competing at OUAs. Treleaven is the defending OUA Champion in the 3000m and is currently ranked 15th in U SPORTS. Both the men's and women's teams are heading into the championship weekend ranked 7th in OUA. 

After a solid indoor season, Head Coach Paula Schnurr is confident the team is prepared to compete at the highest level.  "The team has had a very successful season with numerous personal bests and I know they are looking forward to competing at their best when it really counts," says Schnurr.
