HAMILTON, Ont. — The Marauder Nordic Ski team will make their way up north to compete at the OUA Championship in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. hosted by Algoma from February 21st-23rd. Last year at the OUA championship the Marauders grabbed 6th in the women's team standings and 9th in the men's.
The Marauders have had the opportunity to get in a solid few races before heading into championship season. Earlier in the season, Katrina Pegrum (Ottawa, Ont.) finished 9th in the Senior 7km race at the Ontario Cup in North Bay. Later in January, at the Muskoka Loppet in Huntsville, first year, Kira Young (Yellowknife, NWT.) stole the show finishing first in her age group and fifth overall. David Harris (Thunder Bay, Ont.) would also take home a gold in the men's U20 30km race.Â
Marauders to watch:
Fifth year Physiotherapy student athlete, Cara Pekos (Richmond Hill, Ont.) has competed in three OUA championships. She was 6th in the skate interval at OUAs in 2023, and helped lead the women's team to a bronze medal. Pekos also represented Canada at the 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid in the Biathlon.
Marika Wechsler (Ottawa, Ont.) is in her second year as a Honours Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour B.A. student. Wechsler has previous OUA championship experience as well as additional championship experience at OFSAA were she won two gold medals in 2023 in the overall team and women's relay.
