Wang and Gonzalez Maciel named Marauder Athletes of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. — McMaster Swimmers, Michelle Wang and Emilio Gonzalez Maciel have been crowned this week's Marauder Athletes of the Week for their excellent showings at the OUA swimming championships this weekend.

Women's Swimming - Michelle Wang (Port Elgin, Ont.)

Wang competed at the OUA championships in Markham this weekend where she came home with an array of medals. The third year swimmer earned an individual gold in the women's 50m butterfly, in 26.80, just three hundredths of a second shy of the OUA record. She then helped the women's 4x50m medley relay earn a silver and the women's 4x100m freestyle relay earn bronze. On top of her already grabbing one of each colour of medal, she also helped lead the women's team to an overall team bronze.

Men's Swimming - Emilio Gonzalez Maciel (Estada De Mexico, Mex.)

First year, Gonzalez Maciel made his mark this weekend at the OUA swimming championship as well. Gonzalez Maciel earned an individual bronze in the men's 200m backstroke, with a time of 1:59.70. He also grabbed a silver medal in the men's 4x100m medley relay. He made school history as well, breaking the school record in the 100m backstroke with a time of 54.98. Gonzalez Maciel contributed heavily to the Marauders' overall team score which helped the men's team sneak by Waterloo by half a point to take the overall men's team bronze.
