PREVIEW: 2024 silver medalists aim for gold at the OUA Women's Curling Championship

HAMILTON, Ont. — The Marauder women's curling team will head up north to compete at the OUA Women's Curling Championships from January 31st to February 2nd.

Last year, the team won silver at the OUA championships, falling 7-6 to the Laurentian Voyageurs in an intense finals match. In 2023, they were OUA champions. The McMaster team will look to put together another strong showing this year at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club in Sudbury.

"We are very excited to compete in the OUA championship together. We have a mix of returning and new players who are eager to hit the ice as a team. We look forward to the opportunity to bring home another banner for McMaster," says Athlete & Women's Curling Co-President, Anastasia Cornea (Moose Jaw Sask.).

The team will start the championship run in the round robin games starting on January 31st against Waterloo and Carleton and then will face the University of Toronto and Trent on February 1st. The Marauders have already completed a packed schedule in the regular season. They started off the season at the Guelph Invitational and the team finished the weekend 2-3. The team then went 4-1 at home at the McMaster Invitational. The Marauders ended the regular season at Brock where they came away with a 3-1 record.

Marauders to watch heading into championship season:

Honours Health & Society/Anthropology major, Evelyn Robert (Clarksburg, Ont.), who is in her third year of eligibility, as already racked up multiple accolades at past OUA championships including earning gold in 2023 and silver in 2024. She was also named to the 2023 OUA first team all-star and U Sports first team All Canadian, as well as the 2024 OUA second team all-star list.

MSc Occupational Therapy major, Rachel Steele (Port Perry, Ont.) who is in her fourth year of eligibility, has also had her fair share of OUA championship experience including three OUA championships for Guelph during her undergrad. And in her first OUA as a Marauder she'll bring a wealth of provincial and national experience to the team from her competitive career.
