U SPORTS #3 ranked women's team shine at Guelph Open

GUELPH Ont. — On Sunday, McMaster's wrestling team competed in the Guelph Open. 

Serena Di Benedetto (Hamilton, Ont.) showed why she's the U SPORTS number one in the 53kg class, taking home gold in the category. Senuki Dasanayaka (Brampton, Ont.) took the bronze in the women's 55kg class, falling short of second by decision in round three. U SPORTS number one ranked in women's 59kg, Olivia Lichti (New Hamburg, Ont.) earned third in the women's 57kg. Landing just off the podium was Vanessa Fonrose (Brampton, Ont.) grabbing fourth in the women's 83kg, and Macy Malysiak (Brampton, Ont.) who got sixth in the women's 62kg. The Marauder women earned the fourth spot in the overall standings with 25 points.

The Marauder men's team had Tin Dao (Surrey, B.C.) finish in fifth in the 61kg class, and Irman Kang (Caledon, Ont.) fall just shy of the podium, grabbing fourth in the men's 86kg.

Up Next: McMaster will compete at the Western Open on January 26th.
