HAMILTON, Ont.
— The McMaster Marauders (2-0-2) avoid their first loss of the season in two matchups versus the Windsor Lancers (0-2-2) over the weekend.
The Marauders finished in a 3-3 draw against the Lancers in an exhilarating match at Windsor's home field on Friday.
McMaster took an early lead when
Bryanna Caldwell (Tottenham, Ont.) recorded two goals in the first half. Caldwell opened the scoring at 11:51, assisted by Alena Sephar (Milton, Ont.), and added her second goal in the 23
rd minute with help from
Jade Abreo (Mississauga, Ont.). Windsor responded at the 32-minute mark with a goal to close in on the Birds' advantage.
The Marauders extended their lead to 3-1 in the second half when Abreo found the net at 62:18. However, Windsor avoided a loss and equalized the match with two late goals, scoring at 82:53 and 85:37.
Ultimately, the Lancers managed seven shots (five shots on goals) and the Marauders recorded nine shots (eight on goal). The evenly matched squads would both secure a 3-3 tie on their record.
After the Marauders were reluctant to come away from Friday's match against the Lancers with a win, they took care of business in a rematch on Sunday. The maroon recorded their second win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Lancers at Ron Joyce Stadium.
Just as the fans got comfortable in their seats, Sephar snuck the ball past Windsor's goalkeeper at the 1:08 mark. Abreo recorded an assist on the early goal and the Birds held onto their 1-0 lead for the remainder of the match.
McMaster's goalkeeper,
Ali Mudie (Burlington, Ont.) had six saves in the shutout win.
The Birds look to improve their record while facing Western (3-0-1) at home on Friday, September 13. The Marauders look to turn the tide against the Mustangs as they have dropped their last four matches to the purple and white. Don't miss out on the action, purchase your tickets for Friday's matchup
