Marauder women defeated by the no. 4 nationally ranked Mustangs in weekend matches

HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders (2-2-2) were defeated in two consecutive matches against the fourth nationally ranked, Western Mustangs (5-0-1).

At Ron Joyce Stadium, McMaster fell 3-0 in their first of two matches against the Western Mustangs this weekend.

With Ali Mudie (Burlington, Ont.) starting in net, the Birds were able to keep the score close in the first half.  But before the half was up, the Mustangs scored to put them ahead 1-0.

In celebration of Pride Night at Ron Joyce Stadium, LAAG McMaster hosted pride trivia for some halftime entertainment. With the extra energy from the crowd, the Marauder women began the half with numerous chances on goal but were unable to convert.

Western extended their lead with two more goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes. The Marauders continued to pour on more pressure near the end of the game with a through ball down the middle to Alyssa Wheeler (Atlanta, USA). Wheeler looked to put the Marauders on the board with this chance in the 61st minute but the second attempt sailed wide.

Chances continued for the Marauders with a header by Bryanna Caldwell (Tottenham, Ont.) in the 86th minute that hit the crossbar and bounced out .The Marauders had their share of chances, with eight shots on goal but were unable to convert and lost 3-0.

On Sunday the Marauders faced the Mustangs in a rematch on the road.

With McMaster's Jana Febbraro (Hamilton, Ont.) starting in net, the Marauders were able to keep the score close. Only one goal would end up beating goalkeeper Febbraro.

Despite the maroon's efforts, they could not get on the board and the Mustangs edged out the Marauders again, winning 1-0.

Next Up: The Marauders are in search of a victory and will travel to Waterloo on September 20th to face the undefeated Laurier Golden Hawks (3-0-2).
