McMaster comes up short vs. Windsor

WINDSOR, Ont. — To end their home opener weekend, the Windsor Lancers (3-2) hosted the McMaster Marauders (5-0).
McMaster lost the game 66-82.

McMaster took an early lead with a bounce pass down the middle to Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.). Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) followed up by getting her own rebound and laying it in for two. Back and fourth play continued with Windsor leading by four at the end of the first quarter.

Stinson got the Marauders rolling in the second half with a stretch pass down the centre to Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.), who laid it in for two. Windsor would extend their lead in the second half but a few shots from three point range from Stinson and Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.) helped close the gap. The Marauders went into halftime behind 26-34.

Coming out of halftime, the Lancers sank some threes to add to their lead. But after a timeout by McMaster, both Stinson and Delaney Bourget (Sudbury, Ont.) would sink threes as well. A bounce pass into the paint landed in the hands of Jordan Denkers (Hamilton, Ont.) who added two more points. Then A'Mya Rawlins-Thomas (Ajax, Ont.) got a lay up and free throw to complete the three point play.

McMaster would head into the final quarter down 45-64. Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) made her presence known in the fourth, hitting four straight threes, which gave McMaster some energy. Ultimately, the Lancers would hold the Marauders off to win 82-66.

Next Up: McMaster will face the Nipissing Lakers at home on November 15th.
